Brad Marchand Turns Lars Eller Bloody after Taunting Bench

It was an ugly game all around for the Boston Bruins on opening night.

By a score of 7-0, the Washington Capitals dominated the Bruins. However, many fans aren’t even talking about the number of goals put up by the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Yep, for the first time this season, the news is about Brad Marchand. I reckon it won’t be the last time, either.

Down 6-0 in the third period. Capitals’ forward Lars Eller added to the bashing of the Bruins, making it 7-0 and further embarrassing Boston on opening night.

Apparently, what set off Brad Marchand was the fact that Lars Eller celebrated in-front of the Bruins’ bench.

A simple twirl of the right hand was enough for Brad Marchand to drop the mitts against Eller, leaving Eller bloodied from the fight.

Marchand started feeding Eller some punches before he could even get his gloves off. Fans on social media are upset about Marchand’s behavior. On the slow-motion replay, you can see Marchand land two skull-crushing fists to Eller’s head.

Marchand was dealt an Instigator, Fighting Major and Misconduct for his actions. Marchand was sent off the ice after the incident.

Will Marchand be suspended for what took place? Fans are already calling for Marchand’s head, but as of now, there has been no official word from the NHL or Director of Player Safety.

After the game, Marchand tried to downplay his actions on the ice, hoping to move on as to not create a huge deal of the jumping.

“It’s fucking one game,” Marchand told the Associated Press. “It’s nothing. We’ll let it go and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.”

Marchand also said to Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press “His celebration was unnecessary. He took an angle in front of our bench and celebrated in a 7-0 game. So I just let him know.”

Interesting words from a guy who may be disciplined for his actions.

On social media, the fight between Marchand and Eller was heavily discussed. Plenty of people now want to see Marchand get suspended.
